Description
Set in the ancient Maya city of Chichen, The Oracle of Ix Chel tells the story of Jada Skirt, an oracle and priestess of the goddess Ix Chel during a critical time in history when the Maya are turning away from peaceful worship of the goddess and embracing the brutal practice of human sacrifice. Jada skirt must set herself against the bloodthirsty priests of the war god in order to save her beloved granddaughter, who is destined to continue her sacred lineage and one day rule Ix Chel’s women’s sanctuary, Cuzamil Island. With the help of her spirit guide, her deep knowledge of rain forest plant lore, and a staunch ally who is her forbidden love, Jada Skirt sets off on a tense adventure that will change the course of Mayan history forever.

"The Oracle of Ix Chel is a tour de force of narrative, history, and insight into a culture and cosmology. Set in the Mayan city of Chichen during pre-Columbian times, it tells the story of a gifted woman committed to her lineage and its sacred path. Rosita Arvigo's intimate knowledge of ancient Mayan practices infuses every page. As soon as I finished, I was ready for the next installment."

"I was drawn into the world of Jade Skirt like a hummingbird attracted to the nectar of a luscious, red hibiscus blossom. Rosita Arvigo expertly weaves a tale of life in a post-Toltec Mayan landscape--part fiction, part deep intuitive knowing from Rosita, but mostly a refreshing 'her'-story that brings alive these particular peoples during their time. Both immensely entertaining and deeply inspiring, The Oracle of Ix Chel will leave readers waiting impatiently for Book 2."

"A wonderfully engaging journey through magic, myth and time. Through this beautiful tale, in her very special voice, Rosita Arvigo brings us to a place that once was. Arvigo's remarkable descriptions of rainforest plants and shamanic ritual adds a beautiful richness to the page-turning plot. Her fascinating story is written from the heart and will delight the reader as well as convey wisdom of the ancients."
